For some, the pandeiro is another of the instruments brought by the Africans to Brazil.
However, its origin could also be Hindu, as it is one of the most ancient musical instruments from “Old India”. Nevertheless, the pandeiro, brought by the Portuguese to the continent, was present during the first procession of Corpus Christi that took place in Bahia on the 13th of June 1549. From then on, the Africans used the pandeiro for celebrations. In Cuba there are still specific pandeiros for their gods the Orixas, such as, Ere.
